Get 'em To Click
By Wenchy

I have an announcement to make: Regardless of what you may have read or heard, Osama Bin Laden is NOT Public Enemy #1! That title belongs exclusively to a particular group of individuals... the thousands of cheap horny bastards out there looking for free porn on the Internet! Sadly enough, it is this very collection of persons that keeps the adult Net buzzing along... and it is also that group that you should keep in mind when building your free sites!

I've been an adult webmistress for just over four years now and during that period of time I've learned a few things about marketing and sales strategy. By far and away the most useful tidbit of information I've gleaned during my tenure is the use of softcore content, graphic text, and hardcore banners to create the tease and get the surfers to click. Now I realize this sounds extremely simple, but I don't think it's as widely well-known as you might think.

Rarely a day goes by when I don't trip over TGP galleries with 100 pictures or free sites with 10-30 hardcore thumbs in the galleries. This kind of negligence makes me want to scream! It's no wonder conversion rates average 1:450 or worse these days! Surfers have figured out that if they're willing to deal with a few consoles and some serious B.S., there's more than enough free content for the asking. I don't know about you, but all that free porn sure as hell isn't buying my dream car or paying my bills... it's just sucking my bandwidth and making me old before my time.

Our job as webmasters is to build sites... that's pretty much a given. But our real job is sales! With this in mind, I'm going to offer up a few ideas for building a truly successful free site... truly successful meaning one that makes money! I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, but if the information I spew forth in the next few paragraphs helps even one webmaster make an extra sale, I'll be a happy camper. :-)

Here's a quick tip: For maximum effectiveness, you should always use only one sponsor per site. It's difficult to convince even a surfer that X-site is the absolute best if there are ads for three other sponsors on the same page! Pick one and PUSH IT!

Sponsor ads are the key to everything! Use as many as you can get away with (3-5 per page, maximum of two banners) and use text rather than banners where possible. Just throwing a banner on a page won't cut it either. Add some graphic text around that banner, a couple of lines above and beneath. Make the surfer believe it's the greatest site with the best content and the hottest chicks on the entire planet... make them want to click!

Now that you've got their minds focused on the niche at hand, you take them to the pictures (assuming, of course, you haven't convinced them to click out to the sponsor yet). Of the ten thumbs on each of your gallery pages, at least eight of them should be softcore shots... minimal nudity with NO money shots (crotch shots, if you prefer). Your job is to show the surfer what kind of content the sponsor has to offer, not to give them enough to whack off to! The other two thumbs can contain boob shots, or maybe full nudity from the rear (naked ass, no spreading)... or even censored pics if you prefer (and if you think you can get away with it).

Censoring content is not that difficult... using a blur tool or a small star or heart or something over the "critical" areas is more than adequate. Save yourself some time and do the censoring on the full-size picture before you make a thumbnail image! Why do it twice if you don't have to?

In conjunction with this softcore content, you will want to use extremely hardcore banners and very graphic text! The idea here is to shift the surfer's focus from your so-so content to the x-rated hardcore content that the sponsor has to offer. Use creative graphic text to keep their minds on the sponsor... just be careful not to make promises your sponsor can't live up to! Your best plan of attack is to concentrate on firing the surfer's imagination. Get them to form a mental picture of a hot blonde, bare ass naked, with her lips wrapped around their... well, you get the idea. ;-)

Create the tease well enough and they will click! By the time they've been through three pages of hardcore banners and in-your-face graphic text versus the mediocre softcore content you've provided, they're gonna be hard as hell and desperate to finish what they started! Your job is to convince them that going to X-sponsor will provide them with high-quality porn they can whack off to anytime, all the time! That, my friends, is what makes the sale!

Using softcore content for free sites is valuable in other ways too, primarily from a legal standpoint. Save your hardcore stuff for your AVS sites (you ARE building AVS sites, aren't you?). The way things stand right now, free content is pretty much a fact of life... but nothing anywhere says that free content has to be hardcore or show money shots! Make the hardcore sponsor ads work for you while staying below the radar of those that would have porn slingers drawn and quartered at dawn. It's just common sense!

Creating the appropriate tease with text is a learned thing. It takes practice and patience to learn how to write four or five sentences of boner-popping smut consistently without repeating yourself or over-selling. Let your sponsor handle the hard sell... you should concentrate on convincing the surfers that they need to click! To use sales jargon for a minute, you provide the qualified leads and the sponsor closes the sale... and if your sponsor can't hold up their end of the bargain, try using someone else who can.

Even if you don't necessarily agree with my approach to building free sites, you really should try it just once. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the increase in your click-through and signup ratios. I know I have been!

If you'd like more detailed information on building a basic free site or tips on writing suggestive text, feel free to drop me an email. I'm always happy to help anyone willing to do their part in the fight to eliminate free hardcore porn from the adult Internet.

Until next time, may your surfers continue to whip it out....
