TGP2 - An Informal Study

A Brief History
The original idea for the TGP2 concept was conceived
in the latter half of July 2001. It started when a TGP owner posted
a message outlining a simple idea. The idea was for a new type
of gallery that he would accept at his TGP. He conceived this
idea after reading all of the depressing posts about low conversion
ratios and how the Internet was becoming overrun with free porn.
The post sparked a flurry of discussions and debates over how
this idea could be molded into a new kind of TGP. This new breed
of TGP would display less free content in thumbnail galleries,
having several benefits. The amount of bandwidth and content needed
for a gallery would be reduced for TGP2 webmasters. But the most
important benefit would be a reduction in the amount of free content
available on the Internet and a higher click-through ratio.
What exactly is TGP2?
The TGP2 is a new breed of the TGP. The debate over
a standard for TGP2 started immediately and will probably continue
into the future. Although many of the TGP2 sites differ in their
minor rules, a main set of standards emerged, defining the basic
outline of what a TGP2 is.
1. No more than five clickable thumbs in each gallery.
A gallery may have less than five clickable thumbs, but never
more.
2. The gallery may contain up to 20 total thumbnails
(including the five clickable ones).
3. The gallery may not contain any reciprocal links
to the original format TGPs. One of the founding concepts of the
TGP2 movement is that regular TGPs give away too content for free.
Sending TGP2 traffic to regular TGPs defeats the purpose, and
therefore is not permitted.
4. The final standard that has been widely accepted
as a TGP2 rule concerns some of the things that tend to aggravate
the surfer. I'm referring to things such as consoles and auto-bookmarking.
TGP2 galleries are cleaner and don’t contain the annoyances of
regular TGPs. This can be used as a major selling point to surfers.
